Hosta
Hosta / Stained Glass Hosta
Hardy plant for shady areas.
Features:
I was named the 2006 Hosta of the Year. I form a sturdy mound of bright golden yellow leaves with wide green margins. My pale lavender flowers appear in late summer. Some sun will bring out my best color. I'm well-suited for planting in mixed containers or tubs.
Companion Plants:
Plant me with Maple, Linden, Oak, Schubert, Fern, Heuchera, Hydrangea, Astilbe, and Bleeding Heart.
Care and Dead Heading:
Feed me in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth appears. Divide me every few years to maintain plant vigor.
Planting Instructions:
Dig a hole twice as wide as the container and 1-1/2 the depth. Remove container and gently massage the roots. Place root ball in center of the hole even with ground level. Backfill hole with mixture of 1/2 native soil and 1/2 soil amendment. Compact lightly and water thoroughly, then repeat. Apply 5-10cm (2-4in) layer of organic mulch & create a water basin around plant.
